As a young lawyer, I worked for a little while on some of the litigation that grew out of the collapse of Home State Savings Bank (and much of the rest of Ohio’s saving and loan industry) in the mid-1980s. That’s not much of a surprise, since virtually every firm in town was involved in one way or the other.

But it was an exciting case to be part of. I remember learning so much from some of the best lawyers in town. And I still recall Marvin Warner’s criminal sentencing.

Warner had been the head of Home State, and by the time the dust settled, he was about as popular as Old Man Potter from “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

Protecting Child Custody Rights for Service Members Should be a Priority

The stories are too frequent: a service member, many times a single mom, is called to serve her country and is given a short time to wind down her personal business and deploy. She makes temporary custody arrangements for her children usually with her former spouse, sometimes in the form of a non-binding family care plan. The mom is then deployed. Upon return from deployment, she goes to pick up her child, and finds out that her ex-spouse won’t relinquish custody without a court order.

Sometimes the story is even worse. For example, a service member in fighting for custody in court has their custodial rights terminated by a judge simply because of ‘deployment’ or even the ‘possibility of deployment.’ Deployed parents, serving our country in places like Afghanistan or Iraq, need protections from state courts disrupting these established family arrangements. We cannot have one branch of government asking American men and women to serve, while another branch punishes them for their service.From our law office in Westerville, Ohio, Jesse R. Covenant Marriage Agreement
 vs. Routine No-Fault Divorce

A Christian husband is citing Ohio Law to protect his family from no-fault divorce.

Months ago, Paul Neumann was fully supporting his stay-at-home wife and their daughter in their North Olmsted home. Now he is a defendant in Cuyahoga County divorce court. He submitted his wife’s signed wedding covenant agreement to the court because she promised to uphold her obligations in accordance with the “Commandments of God given in His Word” and “the divine laws and ordinance for the governance of marriage.”

Neumann is giving the court an ultimatum: either his wife committed fraud on their wedding day and tricked him into marriage, or she intended to be married in conformity with the rules of their church (see filing 2.1 MB).

Ohio Domestic Violence Network to receive federal funding grant

New $3 Million Federally-Funded Public Health Initiative Aims to Identify and Help Victims of Domestic and Sexual Violence, Prevent Abuse and Unplanned Pregnancy

Ten Sites Chosen for New Project Funded by Office on Women’s Health

San Francisco – The Family Violence Prevention Fund (FVPF) has chosen ten sites in nine states for a groundbreaking two-year violence prevention initiative designed to improve the health and safety of women and children. Project Connect: A Coordinated Public Health Initiative to Prevent Violence against Women is funded by the Office on Women’s Health (OWH) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It will find new ways to identify, respond to and prevent domestic and sexual violence, and promote an improved public health response to abuse. Project Connect funding stems from the health provisions in the Violence against Women Reauthorization Act of 2005.

More than half the Project’s funds are directed to ten geographically and ethnically diverse sites that will create comprehensive models of public health prevention and intervention that can lead to improved health and safety. Each site will work with family planning, adolescent health, home visitation, and other maternal child health and perinatal programs to develop policy and public health responses to domestic and sexual violence.
