Property Taxes

Are you paying too much for your property taxes?

We’ve all heard the bad news. The bubble has burst. Nearly every national index has recorded a drop in home values. Even the hottest real estate markets have gone cold.

Ohio never enjoyed a rocket burst of home prices in the late 90′s and early aughts, so it has managed a relatively soft landing, but as the recession continues, that will hardly cushion the blow felt in many household budgets.  According to the Columbus Board of Realtors, the local housing price correction eliminated all the equity gained during the housing boom, and Zillow shows Ohio home prices have fallen an average of 4.6% in 2011–alone.

As a rule, the higher the price, the further the fall, but don’t expect a knock on the door from the tax man offering to lower the assessment of your real estate taxes. In fact, according to the National Tax Union, 60% of properties are over-assessed, yet only one person in fifty will appeal their assessment.

Jesse Mann has worked tirelessly to lower the assessed property values of many people in Ohio, but don’t just take our word for it, click here and read what a few of our real estate tax client have said about Jesse.
